The story in short
Swain was born into a noble family and seemed set for a life of luxury. Then he uncovered a secret plot against Darkwill and personally executed its most prominent members, his own parents among them. After that he rose through the army and made his name in the Shurima campaign.
Ionia cost him everything. In the battle for the Placidium his army was broken, and Ionian blades took his left arm. Disgraced, he set out to uncover what the Immortal Bastion was hiding, and a demon there restored his body. Then, in a single night, he and his allies seized power in Noxus and crushed Darkwill in front of his own followers. He pulled the armies out of the wars Darkwill couldn't win and created the Trifarix, so no one would rule without a counterweight. Swain has even accepted the Black Rose, though he knows it's still plotting against him in secret.
