Syndra was born with enormous magic she couldn't control. When her older brother Evard and his friends mocked her, her power erupted, and the people of her village grew afraid of her.
She was sent to the hermit Konigen, who was supposed to teach her to master her magic. Over time Syndra realized he was secretly holding her power down, and she killed him in a rage. Since then she has let no one hold her back.
Evard teased his sister more than anyone. One evening he and his friends followed her to the village's sacred tree and laughed at her tears, until her magic burst out in dark spheres. Because of that, their family had to leave the village.

Konigen took Syndra into his temple on Fae'lor to teach her to master her magic, but over the years her power only got weaker. When she realized he was holding it down on purpose, Syndra killed him, and her rage shook the whole island.

Kalan guarded the Dreaming Pool on Fae'lor, where Syndra slept, held down by the roots of the earth itself. When she woke, she recognized him as the jailer from her dreams, threw him into the pool and buried him under the rocks.
